Bihar’s Cooperative Department, in collaboration with NABARD, has launched Agri Credit Cards exclusively for women-led Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) in Muzaffarpur and Nalanda. Each card offers pre-approved seasonal loans for seeds, fertilizers, and irrigation equipment at 4% interest. Women FPO leaders undergo digital training to manage records and repayments. Within three months, over ₹5 crore worth of credit has been accessed. Most collectives report increased bargaining power at mandi levels and timely procurement of inputs. The cards also serve as identification tools to access insurance and subsidies. Plans are underway to scale the initiative across 15 districts, strengthening women’s roles in agricultural decision-making and financial independence.
