Jharkhand Launches Rural Film Clubs for Tribal Storytelling

Jharkhand’s Department of Culture has introduced rural film clubs across tribal districts like Gumla and Simdega to revive oral storytelling traditions through digital means. Using projectors and battery-powered setups, clubs screen documentaries and short films made by tribal youth. Topics include forest rights, local legends, water conservation, and women’s issues. Monthly film fests are now held in village squares, and winning entries get statewide recognition. Youth from these regions have also begun uploading their films to YouTube channels and are receiving mentorship from filmmakers. The initiative combines cultural preservation, skill development, and digital expression in rural settings.
